Laser gum depigmentation works by removing a thin top layer of gum tissue, vaporizing the cells responsible for melanin production. As the gums heal and regenerate, they typically develop a pinker hue instead of brown. The procedure may require a local anesthetic and has a brief recovery period with minimal discomfort. My Smile Miami, one of the few clinics in Miami offering this treatment, uses state-of-the-art laser technology.
Who is a Candidate?
To be eligible for this procedure, patients must have healthy gums, which we can confirm during a free consultation with our cosmetic dentist.
What Is the Healing Process Like?
Patients who undergo laser dental treatment generally experience minimal discomfort and complications. Those with extremely sensitive gums may feel slight discomfort for a short period. After treatment, most patients can eat and speak normally right away. Full healing typically occurs within two weeks.
The photos in our gallery feature patients who attended their follow-up appointments two weeks post-treatment.
How Long Does Gum Depigmentation Treatment Last?
A single gum depigmentation treatment can be effective for 20 years or even a lifetime.
How Long Does the Treatment Take?
The procedure duration varies from 20 to 45 minutes, depending on the color and size of the dark patches. We use local anesthesia to ensure the procedure is as comfortable as possible.
What If I Still Have Some Pigments After Healing?
During your follow-up appointment, we can address any remaining pigmentation.
Can I Smoke?
We strongly advise against smoking after the procedure, as it contributes to pigmentation. At a minimum, you should stop smoking for seven days following the treatment, but ideally, quitting entirely is best.
